James practices in the area of criminal and regulatory law. He understands that being accused of wrongdoing is a stressful and disorienting experience. James strives to maintain open communication and provide clear, strategic and effective legal advice to his clients.
As a seasoned litigator, James has experience representing individuals who come into contact with the criminal justice system. He has worked with clients accused of white collar crimes, violent crimes, drug offences and sexual offences. He has acted in high-profile and high-stakes cases at both the trial and appellate level.
James represents individuals, government and corporate clients involved in regulatory litigation including extensive experience in professional misconduct matters across the Atlantic region.
James has represented clients at all levels of court in Nova Scotia and has appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has conducted litigation in Provincial and/or Superior Courts in: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.
From 2009-2018 James practiced law as a Crown Attorney. He has been an instructor and lecturer at Dalhousie's Weldon faculty of law. James has also presented to various groups of lawyers and law enforcement professionals on complex criminal and evidentiary issues.
James focuses on client service and is often contacted at the earliest stages of an investigation to offer guidance. He relentlessly pursues his client's interest and takes pride in getting results.
